The project aims to investigate properties of electroactive chiral materials based on helicenic scaffolds such as [7]helicene, quasi[8]circulenes and unprecedented open shell neutral helical radicals based on tetrathiafulvalene (TTF). The designed molecules are embedded with helical chirality and electron donor units (TTF and metal-dithiolene) in order to induce charge delocalization in the helical backbone, chiral packing, extensive intermolecular interactions, conductivity and spin-filtering properties. The proven stereostability and resolution of the enantiomers (preliminary results, right picture) together with the proof-of-concept synthesis of TTFs bearing these units (unpublished results) represent valuable assets and a strong starting point for the project. The project will focus on chirality related physical properties such as chiroptical modulation, spin-dependent electrochemistry (SDE) and chirality induced spin selectivity (CISS) effect and will benefit from collaboration in theoretical chemistry and in electrochemistry (possible short stay at University of Modena).

➡️ Molecular Engineering of Tricycloquinazolines - Postdoctoral Research Position (1 year)

Moltech Anjou Laboratory – CNRS – University of Angers (France)
Supervisor: Arthur H. G. David, arthur.david@univ-angers.fr

Starting date: January 2027

Candidates should have excellent skills in organic synthesis and must have defended their PhD thesis no more than two years before the start of the contract.

Application: lease provide your resume and the name and email address of two references we can contact.

The project focuses on the chemistry of tricycloquinazolines (TCQs), a unique family of nitrogen-containing polycyclic aromatic compounds that combine synthetic accessibility with promising optoelectronic properties. The successful candidate will design and synthesize new TCQ derivatives and investigate their optical, electrochemical, and solid-state properties using a broad range of modern characterization techniques. The project will benefit from collaborations in theoretical chemistry and device physics to gain a comprehensive understanding of the structure–property relationships governing the behavior of these emerging organic semiconductors. This interdisciplinary research aims to establish TCQs as a versatile molecular platform for future applications in organic electronics and functional materials.
